For example, I have a hunch that retained-mode UI could have an immediate-mode feel like Dear ImGui (which is quickly gaining popularity, especially in game development) when combined with a domain-specific language. It wouldn't be separate from the actual UI implementation, like UI systems which require models and bindings to update.
